Hassan-Hassan, a young boy, is the son of Baba’s servant, Ali. Hassan is a very tender boy that is very loyal. This loyalty is strongest to Amir, Baba’s son, who is a friend to Hassan. Amir is often critical of Hassan. The reader senses an amount of jealousy on Amir’s part for his father speaks very highly of Hassan. Hassan is Amir’s kit runner as they are champions in kit fighting. After winning a large competition Hassan encounters group of boys including Assef that is known for bulling Hassan and Amir. Assef demands that Hassan give him Amir’s kit but he refuses. Assef then rapes Hassan. Hassan begins to act differently, not wanting to do things he would normally. Amir saw Hassan being raped but did nothing. Out of his guilt he ends up setting Hassan up and accusing him of stealing. When Ali and Hassan were confronted with the allegation Ali decides to leave, no longer working for Baba. Hassan and Amir never see each other again. Hassan is a round character having much depth and is developed well. Though we only see him as a child we later find out that he was killed ironically once again being loyal to another.
