Jamila Taheri, Soraya's mother, is a round character. She had stroke and one side of her face droops and she slurrs her speech. She is a kind woman who loved to sing. She became the way Amir and Soraya were able to talk without people gossiping " As if her (Jamilas') presence legitimized whaterver was happening between us- though certainly not to the same degree that the general's would have. Khanum Teheri's chaperoning made our meetings, if not gossip-proof, then less gossip-worthy, even if her borderline fawning on me clearly embarrassed Soraya." (150). Jamila was so happy to finally have her daughter spoken for and she adores Amir. She had loved to sing before she was married but once married the general wouldn't allow her to sing. The general made her feel like she wasn't worthy and that nothing was good enough. For now that is about it on Jamila. She is a very important character because she basically was the one that allowed Amir and Soraya to converse and conveyed her admiration for Amir to her husband.
